In Autumn 2024, Stephen Bediako OBE attended the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Representing Pathway Fund Stephen, spoke at three sessions: focusing upon social mobility, children’s outcomes, and the impact economy.

Stephen was invited to speak at Progressive Britain’s event: ‘Breaking down barriers: Can Labour end early childhood poverty?’, as well as Demos and the Co-operative Group’s panel session: ‘‘The opportunity effect: How can businesses harness social mobility to drive growth?’ Pathway Fund also convened a reception which saw leading sector stakeholders, attend, including Lola McEvoy MP, Polly Billington MP, Luke Charters MP, John Hinder MP, and the Minister for Civil Society, Stephanie Peacock MP.

Stephen discussed how it’s important that this Labour Government tells its story – he stated that we’re likely to see it doing more of this, now it’s in government. He said that we’re also likely to see it expanding upon the way in which it’ll deliver those outcomes, so that it can provide itself with another chapter to tell.

He was heartened to see the amount of policy being offered up at the Conference – and the amount of information those policymakers had at their disposal. He said that there’s no doubt, in his mind, that we’ll see this coming to the fore, in the very near future. What’s essential, is that it sticks to its agenda, its missions, and ensure that it works, as part of this to deliver an economically stronger, more inclusive Britain – one that we all want to see brought about, as soon as possible.

Stephen wrote on his experiences at Conference, which you can read below.

Stephen Bediako commented: “It was fantastic to have attended Conference, leading these conversations, as the co-founder of Pathway Fund. What became clear, was that this Government is committed to delivering real change. And that it has the ideas, to do so. What we need, now, is to see it being delivered. The likes of Pathway Fund, are there to help ensure that it’s so delivered, to achieve material impact.”
