In June 2024, Stephen Bediako OBE gave a rare podcast interview to Nic Carey and Sky’s the Limit’s podcast – The First Buck.
Sky’s the Limit provides a network of some 70,000 entrepreneurs with one-on-one mentoring and business support, world-class entrepreneurship training resources, and access to startup grants funding. And The First Buck’s a podcast profiling the work of those world-leading entrepreneurs – alongside the brilliant work they do.
During the interview, Stephen discussed his pioneering journey; the pair spoke on Stephen’s entrepreneurial work, in East London, at 13, to his conceiving of The Social Innovation Partnership.
Stephen then went on to provide some tips for those emerging entrepreneurs – he highlighted the value of mentorship, education, family, the maintaining of personal wellbeing, and the building of strong, supportive, teams when managing the stresses of entrepreneurship.
Finally, he detailed his work as part of his latest venture, Pathway Fund – a social investment wholesaler, which catalyses emerging entrepreneurs and fund managers, across the UK. Stephen spoke on the recent changes in the ways in which we do social impact – with there being a shift towards the integration of profitability and social responsibility. He spoke on the need for organisations like Pathway Fund to move into this space, with it also being crucial that other Black and Ethnically Minoritised entrepreneurs do the same, in turn.
